Obsura Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information the Obsura app handles, who handles it, and the choices you have.
- There is no account or sign-in.
- We don't collect your name, email address, contacts or photos.
- Obsura shows ads from Google AdMob. Ad services collect some device information, explained below.
- Purchases are handled by Google Play. We never see your card or bank details.
- Your saved wallpapers and settings stay on your device.
Information that stays on your device
- The wallpapers you save with the heart, and your settings (such as your light or dark theme choice and auto-change), are stored only on your phone. Auto-change downloads your next saved wallpaper from our servers when it's time to change (on Wi-Fi only, unless you turn that option off).
- Wallpaper images you view or set are kept in the app's cache so they load faster. You can remove them any time in Settings → Clear cache.
- Wallpapers you choose to save are placed in your phone's Pictures/Obsura folder.
- If backup is turned on for your device, Android may include the app's data in your Google backup. This is controlled by your device settings, not by us.
- Clearing the app's data or uninstalling Obsura removes all of this from the app.
Ads
Obsura is free and shows ads provided by Google AdMob. To show, measure and limit ads and to prevent fraud, Google and its advertising partners may collect and use information such as your device's advertising ID, IP address (which can indicate your approximate location), device and app details, and how you interact with ads. This information is handled by Google under the Google Privacy Policy; you can read how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
- If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Obsura asks for your consent before personalized ads are shown, using Google's consent form. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy choices. If you don't consent, you may still see ads that are not personalized.
- If you live in a US state with its own privacy law (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Utah or Virginia): we do not sell your personal information for money. Under some of these laws, showing you personalized ads through Google AdMob can count as "sharing" your information or as "targeted advertising". You can opt out at any time in Settings → Privacy choices, which Obsura shows where this applies; you will then see ads that are not personalized. We do not treat you differently for opting out.
- Everywhere, you can limit personalized ads or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings (on most Android phones: Settings → Google → Ads, or Settings → Privacy → Ads).
Purchases
Obsura Pro is an optional one-time purchase made through Google Play, which processes the payment under Google's own terms and privacy policy. We do not receive your card, UPI or bank details. Google Play tells the app only whether the Google account signed in on your phone owns Obsura Pro, so the app can unlock it; the app keeps that answer on your phone. In our Google Play Console we can see order numbers, amounts and countries, which we use for accounting and refunds.
Download counts
A wallpaper may show how many times it has been downloaded. When you save or set a wallpaper, the app adds one to that wallpaper's public count. The count is a single number and is not linked to you or your device.
Crash reports
If Obsura crashes or runs into an error, it sends a crash report to Google Firebase Crashlytics so we can find and fix the problem. A report contains technical details only: what went wrong in the app's code, the app version, your phone model and Android version, and a random identifier for this installation of the app (not your advertising ID). Reports are not linked to your name or accounts. Google keeps them for 90 days and processes them under the Firebase privacy terms.
Other services the app connects to
Obsura downloads the wallpapers, their details and occasional app notices from Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage). It also downloads its own updates (newer versions of the app's screens) from our site obsura-wallpapers.web.app, which is hosted on Google Firebase Hosting; nothing is sent with that request beyond what any download needs. Like any internet service, these receive the technical information needed to deliver content to your phone, such as your IP address and basic device and network details. Google processes this information under the Google Privacy Policy. We do not use these services to identify or track you.
Permissions
- Internet, to load wallpapers and ads.
- Set wallpaper, to apply the wallpaper you choose to your home screen, lock screen or both, and, if you turn on auto-change, to change it to your next saved wallpaper every hour or every day.
- Run at start-up, only so an auto-change schedule you turned on keeps working after your phone restarts.
- Advertising ID, used by Google's ads as described above.
- Storage (Android 9 and older only), to save wallpapers to your gallery. Newer Android versions don't need this permission.
Sharing and links
When you share a wallpaper, the image is sent to the app you choose, and that app's own privacy policy applies. The Rate, Share, feedback and Report options open Google Play, your phone's share menu or your email app.
Emails you send us
If you contact us by email, we use your email address and message only to reply to you. We don't share them with anyone.
Children
Obsura is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, for example when new features are added, we will post the updated version on this page and update the effective date above.
